1The pitch
Cody and May are splitting up. When their daughter wishes they would get along, they wake up as tiny dolls, guided by an overenthusiastic book about love. Their journey through the house, garden and imagination is about learning to cooperate again.
2Playing together
Every chapter gives each player a different ability that only works in combination with the other: one shoots nails, the other swings a hammer; one controls time, the other clones herself. The game keeps changing genre, from platforming to shooting to puzzle.
3Who carries who
Abilities are balanced so both players matter equally. A less experienced player can keep up, because sections are forgiving and checkpoints frequent.
4Look & sound
Pixar-like visuals, inventive worlds and excellent voice acting. It looks expensive because it is.
5Setup & value
Two players only, online or split-screen. With the Friend's Pass, only one player needs to own the game. An EA account is required. Verified on Steam Deck.

The verdict
Verdict
“It Takes Two is the best story co-op game on Steam: inventive, warm and perfectly built for two. Only replay value keeps it from the very top of our list.”
